With the decision by President Biden to withdraw from the 2024 Presidential Campaign, we contacted the respective chairs of the Republican Party and Democratic Party in Saline County for their thoughts.

First, we look at the point-of-view from Frank Curtis, chair of the Saline County Republican Committee.

What are your thoughts regarding President Biden dropping out of the race?
“Glad to hear President Biden has dropped out of the race.  He is by far the worst president we’ve ever had.  It has been obvious that his health has been an issue for some time now.“

What about Speaker Johnson stating that there could be lawsuits filed in states regarding the legality of VP Harris being placed on the ballot in Biden’s place?
“There will likely be lawsuits filed for having VP Harris for being placed on the ballot.  This goes against the proper democratic way of nominating candidates by the people voting in the primaries.“

What are your thoughts on those who call for Biden to resign as president by saying if he isn’t fit to run for the office, he isn’t fit to hold it?
“I agree that Mr. Biden should resign now.  His obvious mental decline is a huge issue for the leader of the free world.“

Does this change the campaign for Trump on a local level?
“No change here for the Trump campaign.  He has a solid record to run on.“

How do you see the potential change to Harris for president as it relates to her viability versus former President Trump?
“VP Harris has been a terrible VP & Border Czar, & is an awful pick for president.  I think she has less of a chance of winning than Mr. Biden.”

Do you think this will change the willingness to participate in the scheduled upcoming debate between the two top candidates for president?
“I hope that the debates will continue as planned, I would imagine both candidates would look forward to debating.“

Do you have any additional comments/quotes you would like to add?
“I think the recent assassination (attempt) of Donald Trump has awakened many people to the fact that we are not safe under the current administration.  This was an epic fail of the DEI programs put in place.“

Some of our readers may not know what DEI stands for or means. Would you mind describing what it is and how it applies to VP Harris, please?
“Diversity Equity & Inclusion, where people are chosen for their sex, race & sexual persuasion rather than their qualifications, just like the woman that was in charge of the secret service. She was chosen because she is a woman & a friend of Jill Biden’s. She was not qualified for her position. Thankfully she just resigned.“

Do you have any comments about the speech President Biden gave to the nation on Wednesday night?
“I was surprised that Mr Biden did not give a reason for stepping down from his campaign for reelection. He owes America the truth.“
